Eunice Shriver Kennedy, JFKs older sister, founded an athletics camp in 1962 for children with intellectual disabilities. The camp would go on to evolve into the Special Olympics.

The Spanish Paralympic basketball team was forced to return the gold medals that they won in the 2000 Australian Paralympics after almost all players were found to be not disabled.

The Special Olympics was launched by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, John F. Kennedy's sister, after their other sister was subjected to a botched lobotomized at the age of only 23.
