Dictionaryish is a place to explore ideas, humor, artifacts, and other editorial material through topics and different content lenses. This policy explains what information Dictionaryish collects, why it is used, and the choices available to you.

1. Who operates Dictionaryish

Dictionaryish is operated by Dictionaryish LLC (“Dictionaryish,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Privacy questions and requests may be sent to admin@dictionaryish.com, which is the fastest way to reach us. 2. Information we collect

Information you provide

When you create or use an account, we may collect your display name, email address, password hash, email-verification status, and information needed to keep you signed in. We do not store your plaintext password.

If you use account features, we may store your likes, saved or archived items, lists, followed topics or authors, account preferences, and content you submit. If you contact us, we receive the information in your message.

Information stored on your device

We use browser storage and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember view and filter preferences, support guest likes or a temporary archive, and maintain short-lived session state. We also store two small choices you make: whether adult material is shown, and whether you have agreed to analytics. Those stay in your browser, not on our servers.

Technical information

Our systems and service providers may process your IP address, browser and device information, referring and requested pages, timestamps, diagnostic events, and security information to operate, protect, and troubleshoot the service.

Social sharing and publishing

When you use an ordinary Share action, your browser or device handles the destination. Dictionaryish does not receive the login credentials for your personal social-media account.

Authorized Dictionaryish administrators may publish Dictionaryish material to official Instagram or Facebook accounts. For those operations we may store job status, content and request identifiers, temporary-media references, platform post identifiers, permalinks, timestamps, and safe error information. In live mode, the image and caption are sent to the relevant platform.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

create, verify, authenticate, and maintain accounts;
provide likes, archives, lists, follows, preferences, and requested features;
send account-verification and password-recovery messages;
display and administer submitted material;
prevent abuse, rate-limit sensitive actions, and protect the service;
diagnose problems and improve performance and design;
publish material to official social accounts when an administrator requests it;
comply with law and enforce our Terms.

4. Cookies and analytics

Dictionaryish runs no advertising. There are no ad networks, no advertising cookies, and no advertising identifiers on this site.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used — which pages are read, where readers arrive from, roughly where in the world they are. It is the only third-party measurement tool here.

Nothing is measured until you agree. Analytics storage is denied by default. On your first visit a short notice asks whether you consent; until you accept, Google Analytics sets no cookie. If you decline, that choice is remembered and you are not asked again. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie choices control at the top of this page.

We use Google’s Consent Mode. The three advertising signals it supports — advertising storage, advertising user data, and advertising personalisation — are denied and are never granted, because there is nothing here they could serve. IP anonymisation is on.

5. When we share information

We may disclose information:

to providers that help us host, store, secure, communicate, and operate Dictionaryish;
to Railway, which hosts the application and the database;
to Resend to deliver transactional account email;
to Google, for analytics, but only after you have agreed to it;
to Google Workspace, which carries mail sent to and from our contact address;
to Amazon Web Services for image storage and temporary professional-publishing media;
to Meta, Facebook, or Instagram when an authorized administrator publishes to official Dictionaryish accounts;
when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or security;
as part of a merger, financing, sale, or transfer of the service.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising as California law uses those terms. There is no advertising on this site, so the disclosures that would otherwise raise those questions do not arise.

6. Retention

We keep account and activity information while needed to provide the service and for legitimate operational, security, dispute, and legal purposes. Password-reset links expire after 30 minutes and are designed for one-time use. Account-verification links are designed to expire. Temporary professional social-publishing images are configured for short retention, currently one day.

Database backups are taken by our host on a schedule: daily backups are kept for six days and weekly backups for twenty-seven weeks. Information you delete may therefore persist in a backup until that window passes.

7. Your choices and rights

You can change your display name and manage certain likes, archives, lists, follows, and preferences through the product. You can sign out to remove the active session from the current browser.

To request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or another privacy right available where you live, email admin@dictionaryish.com from the email address associated with your account. We may take additional reasonable steps to verify that the request concerns your account.

Account-deletion requests are handled through a verified request sent from the email address associated with the account. Deleting your account deletes everything we hold about you. Accounts on Dictionaryish do not publish public material — the definitions and other editorial content on the site are written by us, not by readers — so what an account holds is your sign-in details and your own private activity: what you loved, what you archived, the lists you made, who you follow, and your preferences. All of it goes, subject only to the backup window described above.

If Dictionaryish ever lets readers publish material to the site, this section will be revised before that happens, and the revision will explain what becomes of published work when an account is closed.

8. Security

We use measures intended to protect information, including password hashing, signed sessions, hashed and expiring recovery tokens, one-time reset links, authorization checks, and rate limiting. No internet service can promise absolute security. Use a unique password and contact us if you believe your account has been compromised.

9. International processing

Dictionaryish is operated from the United States, and its providers — Railway, Amazon Web Services, Google, and Resend — process information in the United States and, for some of them, in other countries. Where required, we will use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

10. Children

Dictionaryish is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 to create an account. Reading the site does not require one.

Sixteen rather than thirteen is deliberate: it is the higher of the two figures the relevant laws use, so one limit satisfies both without asking readers where they live. We do not ask for a date of birth and do not otherwise collect age information, so this is a condition of using the service rather than something we verify. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under sixteen. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it.

11. Third-party links and services

Dictionaryish may link to external sites and may let your device share content to third-party platforms. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Dictionaryish changes. We will revise the date above and provide additional notice when a change is material or law requires it.
