Turner himself would have no hope of winning it nowadays, unless, of course, he consented to turn his paintings into 'installations, generating storms at sea with hair dryers and paddling pools, and fiery sunsets with a couple of one hundred and fifty-watt light bulbs, a bit of corrugated iron and some brightly colored tissue paper.
