Participation is an orientation to the world based on an emotional association between persons and things in contact with a non-ordinary spirit reality.

Pre-logical mind is a particular disposition that sees the world as filled with powers and entities not usually accessible to normal human senses what we today would call a spirit world.

Primitive mentality is not an evolutionary retardation, but a a form of collective representation dominant among primitives where thought is not ruled by analytic logic. Rather, emotion (or affects) functions as an inseparable constitutive part of representations and thought is ruled by a kind of associational thinking.

Primitive thinking is not due to an earlier evolutionary stage or inferior reasoning, but it is subject to different social conditions. It is logical, but the principles of the logic are different.
