Modernity is the willed coexistence of two different worlds.

A Non-place is a transit space (i.e. Highway, hotel room, airport) that does not hold enough significance to be regarded as a place.

Place is spaces that are significant and meaningful.

Supermodernity is characterized not by the erosion or lack of meaning (as so many other modernities), but by its intensification and the attendent inability to recognize events or distinguish between meaningless occurrences and meaningful moments.
