One could say that anthropologist study in the interest of those less powerful and make a case for an anthropological critique of power in the name of the powerless' (Carrithers 2005 : 445)

is always grounded in a particular moral position... namely, the recognition of the worth of the other.

On this view it would be improper to say that culture works on people but proper to say that people use cultural tools to work on themselves and others (Carrithers 2005:434)
