Peter Eisenman writes, 'What defines architecture is the continuous dislocation of dwelling' ('Architecture' 177). Eisenman is warning against the dangers of the institutionalization of a certain way of living imposed by the way architecture occupies and organizes space. He is also speeking from within the philosophical tradition that defines dwelling not as a state of rest or habituation but as perpetual construction: dwelling and building, according to Heidegger, are bound within the same dynamic('Building' 151).
