A Little tradition is culture of peasant societies. A great tradition is the culture of the cities and intellectual elites.

The Peasant is a man who is in effective control of a piece of land to which he has long been attached.

The Peasant is in an intermediate position along the folk-urban continuum. A lower social class classified part of a stratified, partly already semi-industrialized society., already dependent to produce for the market in contrast to the self-sufficient subsistence farmers.
