is of the belief that each citizen should have a share in the goods that belong to the political community, and thus that there should be some measure of economic equality.

And the democrat believes that each citizen should share equally in the goods that belong to the political community, which can be achieved only where the people act collectively to vindicate this interest ('participatory' democracy) and where there is some measure of economic equality... and so the democrat despises the political and economic inequality that a politics of liberty makes possible.
