The Vice presidency is such an inconsequential post that, as they say: once there were two brothers, one ran away to sea, the other was elected Vice-President, and nothing was ever heard of either of them again.

The Vice president is like a man in a cataleptic state... he cannot speak... he cannot move... he suffers no pain... and yet he imperfectly conscious of everything that is going on about him.
