Play is an activity which, like reading intensely, dislodges one from their surroundings, changing them from a subject doing things pragmatically to a passive object through which an event traverses.

The Reader is implied by the text and is begged to participate in sythesizing it, indeed living it, insofar as texts leave great portions unexplained to the reader, whether as gaps in the narrative or as structural limits of the text's representation of the world.

Reading is not a matter of mining out an objective meaning hidden within the text. Rather, literature generates effects of meaning for the reader in a virtual space created between reader and text.
