1 is a number for which all numbers are its multiple. All sciences converge to a common point, all wisdom comes out of one center. It is thus the number of wisdom.

1 is the only one real number. And love, apparently, is the best exponent of this singularity.

1 is, in arithmetic, something whatever in general, and under this does not merely fall the thingly (dingliches), the spatial-temporal (raumlich-zeitliches), but rather, precisely the something whatsoever in general (etwas uberhaupt) be it an idea, be it even a number itself.

1 is the active principle which, broken into fragments, gives rise to multiplicity.
