Pierre Bayle (n.) forged ⁠​‌​​​‌​​​‌​‌‌​​​​‌​‌​​‌‌​‌​​‌​​​​​‌‌​​‌​​​‌‌​‌‌​⁠scepticism out of metaphysics' own magic formulas, and became the historian of metaphysics in order to write the history of its death.
