According to Foucault, actuality, or the present order, is inaugurated by an event, an event that repeats that which comes before. The event is that which sets us to work as subjects, which marks the transition from potentiality to actuality. The repetition, however, is never complete. In the transition from potentiality to actuality the subject comes into being by bringing together that which comes before, in terms of knowledge and experience, as it relates to others, as well as to the material. The conditions of possibility for the emergence of the subject are therefore always multiple and incomplete in every governing moment.
