is a kind of doubt consisting not in knowing that one knows nothing, but in resolutely exposing what one thought one knew.

A riff on Cartesian doubt. Levi Strauss suggests that anthropological doubt 'does not only consist of knowing that one knows nothing, but of resolutely exposing what one thought one knew-and one's very ignorance-to buffetings and denials directed at one's most cherished ideas and habits by other ideas and habits best able to to rebut them' (Levi-Strauss 1966:26) Levi-Strauss.
