The Big bang is not the beginning. Something did exist before it; namely, the laws that created the Big Bang and our universe and perhaps the infinite multiverse.

The Big bang is the primordial slap on the backside of the newborn universe.

The Big bang is difficult to explain outside of the temporal presuppositions we bring to it. To ask what existed before it is like asking what is north of the north pole, a meaningless question.
