Capitalist society is a system which, in putting an end to all feudal, patriarchal, and idyllic relations, has pitilessly torn asunder the motley of ties that bound man to his 'natural superiors,' and left remaining no other nexus between man and man than naked self-interest, than callous 'cash payment'.
Capitalist society 1s 2rinciples are acquisition, profit, and property, which produces a social character oriented around having, and once the dominant pattern is established, nobody wants to be an outsider, or indeed an outcast... in order to avoid this risk everybody adapts to the majority, who have in common only their mutual antagonism.
