is a method in museum-classification whereby museum employees knap flints, practice boomerang-throwing as a kind of bodily training intended to facilitate classification, thereby bolstering the scientific value of the collections and displays.

The museum's founder, Lieutenant General Pitt Rivers, and staff memberes Edward Burnett Tylor and Henry Balfour were primarily concerned with the tangible qualities of the objects. They not only measured, grouped and arranged artefacts but also experimented with them and gave demonstrations in ways unknown to modern museum staff. They knapped flints, used fire-making equipment and even practiced boomerang-throwing in a local park as part of what Pitt Rivers called 'eye training'.
