The Interpretivist turn is an 'epistemic shift within anthropology away from an analytical, positivist conception of knowledge to a hermeneutical one which, to adapt weber's famous phrase sees both the anthropologist and the people he or she studies as suspended in webs of significance they themselves have spun.
