Fort-Da (n.) is ⁠​‌​​​‌​​​‌​‌‌​​​​‌​‌​​‌‌​‌​​‌​​​​​‌‌​​‌​​​‌‌​‌‌​⁠the child's game with a reel that Freud reads as a little sacrificial expulsion: throwing the object away avenges the child on the mother for leaving.
