externalization

is the idea that the life that a laborer gives to an object is such that once that object is out in the world, separate from him, it then confronts him as hostile and alien.

The externalization of the worker in his product means not only that his work becomes an object, an external existence, but also that it exist outside him, independently, alien, an autonomous power, opposed to him.
