focal actuality

is an object or relation 'singled out' from an unthematized field of intuition or lifeworld.

Kant's two senses of actuality were recovered in the twentieth century by Husserl, who distinguished between dormant and focal actualities: dormant actualities are perceived as present in the field of intuition, but are not 'singled out'... they form a zone for the emergence of focal actualities (Husserl, 1913, 1057). In terms of his later thought, they form a life world, actual but unthematized, out of which may be drawn focal objects and relations. (Kant dictionary (caygill) : 52-3)
