is no longer a person but at most a rendezvous of persons — which is exactly why he is great as an actor.

“The absurd irritability of his system, which turns all experiences into crises and introduces the "dramatic" into the smallest accidents of life, robs him of all calculability: he is no longer a person, at most a rendezvous of persons and now this one, now that one shoots forward with shameless assurance.”
