National security is the chief cause of national insecurity.

National security is an imaginary state of affairs in which one would retain the capacity to make war while depriving all other countries of it.

National security is, for Japanese, such that economics essentially is national security and the Japanese will accept higher factor costs for essentially the same reason that the United States will overpay for its defense systems. It makes each feel more secure.
