organic solidarity

is solidarity in industrial society. It is organic in that many different independent specialization (baker, mechanic, teacher), beliefs, and conceptualizations work together in a non-mechanistic manner.

Durkheim coined these terms to refer to two different kinds of social organization, organic and mechanical solidarity. Organic solidary belongs to complex industrial society which is composed organically of a great many different interdependent specializations, beliefs, and conceptualization of reality. The grocery store owners depends on the mechanic just as the baker depends on the construction worker. In simple societies, mechanical solidarity wherein persons share mechanistically in common beliefs, ideas about reality, and also activities of production and consumption.
