The Politics of understanding is a political orientation that has arisen out of the undermining of the social authority of experts. 'Understanding' refers to negotiated, temporary provisos that attempt not to fix problems, but to fix reference points, those things that are removed from the argument to seed further controversies in which coalitions and oppositions can form anew.
