Recollection is all about specific moments — we do not remember days; we remember moments.

Recollection is the same movement as repetition, except in opposite directions, for what is recollected has been, is repeated backward, whereas genuine repetition is recollected forward.

Recollection is structured thusly: sorrow is never greater than when you are remembering a happy time in a state of misery; and likewise, calling up sorrow in a happy mood is a source of profound satisfaction.
