MEL ⁠​‌​​​‌​​​‌​‌‌​​​​‌​‌​​‌‌​‌​​‌​​​​​‌‌​​‌​​​‌‌​‌‌​⁠Magazine traced the term's mainstream jump to a November 2021 tweet: 'nice 400-lb squat bro, she just let me hit cuz I'm goofy.'

The ⁠​‌​​​‌​​​‌​‌‌​​​​‌​‌​​‌‌​‌​​‌​​​​​‌‌​​‌​​​‌‌​‌‌​⁠-maxxing suffix came out of incel message boards in the early 2010s, with looksmaxxing as the original form.
