is a paradoxically self-destructive logic whereby masters try to justify their privilege as top-humans by dehumanizing their slaves (via rape, beatings, and other brutalities) which only results in them dehumanizing themselves.

Marriages among slaves were dissolved and spouses separated, parents and children often were split apart, and love affairs between slaves were strictly forbidden. The resulting dehumanization of slaves was an assault on all of human nature, for in degrading the slaves the masters sank further into vice. The rapes, beatings, and overall brutality, plus the prospect that any slave could be sold away to an even worse fate at any time, made their existence the same as that of subjects of a capricious tyrant.
