According to Heidegger, anxiety is a 'mood', not an emotion. In Being and Time, he emphasizes that, although it is not possible to know all beings, we can, nevertheless, feel or sense the totality of beings in a 'mood' ('What is Metaphysics'', in BW: 99). Consequently, when I am in its grip, it influences my entire outlook on existence and determines the nature of my overall involvement with the world and my responses to entities in general.
