Western civilization (n.) stays Christian whatever a man's creed: swap God for money or the world and you have the Western type — assiduous, fearful, self-abasing, greedy and violent in pursuit of goods.
Western civilization (n.) holds Western man in thrall to the ten thousand things, ego-bound and thing-bound; Eastern man experiences the world of particulars, even his own ego, like a dream.
Western civilization (n.) needs no more mastery over nature — it has that to a devilish degree; what it lacks is admitting its inferiority to the nature around and within it, and unless it learns that, its own nature will destroy it.
Western civilization (n.) was interrupted mid-barbarism by a higher spirituality, and could become what it was not yet only by splitting conscious from unconscious — disciplined and rational on top, a suppressed primitive below.
Western civilization (n.) broke our natural evolution: a higher spirituality was imposed while our beliefs were still barbarously polytheistic, and these were forced underground for two thousand years — so the more successful we are in science and technology, the more diabolical the uses we put them to.
